Supporting People with Aphasia in Acute Care - Disclosure

Course Description

This course provided attendees the opportunity to be educated on challenges with communication that patients with aphasia encounter during their acute care stay. This course provided participants with the tools and strategies needed to work collaboratively with hospital colleagues to provide improved communication and patient care in patients with aphasia.

Elements of Competence

In addition to attendance and successful completion of a quiz pertaining to lecture content, attendees will self-reflect and assess how this lecture might change their clinical practice patterns.

Objectives

As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to:

1. describe the primary communication challenges and barriers patients with aphasia encounter throughout the acute hospitalization process.
2. identify three evidence-based strategies to use in daily clinical practice to facilitate improved communication in the hospital setting.
3. explain how to coordinate with diverse interdisciplinary healthcare teams to build a comprehensive, supportive care plan that improves the overall hospital stay for patients with aphasia.

Method of Participation

The estimated time to complete this online activity and exam is 1 hour(s). To receive credit, a passing grade of 100% is required on a short online quiz. You will have opportunities to retake the quiz to achieve a passing score. After you have completed your exam and evaluation you will be able to automatically print your credit letter.
