How Stress Impacts the Voice: What Clinicians Need to Know - Disclosure

Course Description

This course provided attendees the opportunity to be educated on current research and clinical take-aways regarding the impact of stress on vocal quality. Attendees learned how stress impacts laryngeal microbiome.

Elements of Competence

Interview of the combined staff among UW-Madison speech language pathologists and identified a need for education in understanding the impact of stress on voice.

Objectives

As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Summarize current literature that details how stress affects clinical voice outcomes.
2. Describe how psychosocial stress affects the laryngeal microbiome.
3. Identify clinical takeaways from current basic science on stress and the voice.

Method of Participation

The estimated time to complete this online activity and exam is 1 hour(s). To receive credit, a passing grade of 100% is required on a short online quiz. You will have opportunities to retake the quiz to achieve a passing score. After you have completed your exam and evaluation you will be able to automatically print your credit letter.

This activity is offered for 0.10 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).
In addition to attendance and successful completion of a quiz pertaining to lecture content, attendees will self-reflect and assess how this lecture might change their clinical practice patterns
