This course educated attendees regarding the pathophysiology and symptoms of gastric and supragastric belching. Course attendees were able to learn how speech language pathologists can implement effective evaluation and treatment for patients determined to have supragastic belching
Interview of the combined staff at the UW-Madison speech language pathologists, and identified a need for education in the area of evaluation and treatment of supragastric belching.
1. Differentiate and define the pathophysiology of supragastric belching from gastric belching.
2. Identify and interpret key instrumental evaluation assessments including videofluoroscopic swallow study and pharyngeal manometry, which can assist with determining if belching is supragastric belching.
3. Identify relevant treatment options that speech language pathologists can offer and implement in patients identified to have supragastric belching.
