The Functions of Oral Mechanism Examination in Pediatric Speech Sound Disorders - Disclosure

Course Description

This course provided attendees the opportunity to learn about a thorough, evidence based oral mechanism evaluation in pediatric patient populations. This course covered the potential speech sound disorders that might be expected based on findings from an oral mechanism evaluation.

Elements of Competence

Needs Assessment:
Interview of the combined staff at the UW-Madison speech language pathologists, and identified a need for education in the area of completing an adequate, evidence based oral mechanism evaluation on pediatric patients and what speech sound disorders might be associated.

Objectives

Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. describe the different task categories used in oral mechanism examinations (OME).
2. identify the connection between OME findings and potential speech production patterns.
3. explain the structures and functions of the speech system that may be assessed as part of OME.

Method of Participation

The estimated time to complete this online activity and exam is 1 hour(s). To receive credit, a passing grade of 100% is required on a short online quiz. You will have opportunities to retake the quiz to achieve a passing score. After you have completed your exam and evaluation you will be able to automatically print your credit letter.
